Most people think they could not ever be duped in a financial scheme. Scammers depend on this self-assured delusion to gain access to your trust and your money. The truth is, anyone can be scammed in the right situation, but there are three types of people who are more prone to scam victims
- Individuals who tend to invest their money because they have a rightful need to see their money grow and are not deterred by normal investment risks (small business owners fall into this category)
- Groups of people bound by a common interest such as religion or ethnicity
- Individuals who believe in the inherent honesty of people. Almost everyone will fall into the one of these three categories when they become a target of the scammer. And just because you have not fallen victim to a scam now does not mean some future scheme won't get you later.

Our magazine will focus on three types of financial schemes: The Scam, The Hustle and The Con. You are right to assume these three schemes can be used interchangeably, but con men know the intricate differences well enough to approach you with one or all of these three vehicles depending on your personality. Pick up our magazine October 30th, 2009 to learn the difference and protect yourself! Visit our Consumer Insights page to view the three terms we have coined to identify the con man team.
